About

About Me

Shawn Kilgarlin is a Louisiana native. With her husband, Ron Kilgarlin, she owns the American Screening Corp., a leader in rapid drug, alcohol, and diagnostic tests. She divides her time between professional work, family, creative pursuits, and charitable work.

Career

Shawn currently serves as VP of Sales/Marketing/and Product Development at American Screening Corp. She is an expert in antibody and conjugate development.

She and her husband founded the business in her father-in-law's sunroom in 2004. Eighteen years later, the company is an ISO 13485 Certified distributor of infectious disease tests, cardiac tests, rapid drug and alcohol tests, and medical supplies to the United States, South America, Asia, Africa, Europe, and Australia. It is based in Shreveport, LA.

The business's core values include continuous self-improvement, integrity and ethics, and commitment. Its mission is to deliver quality products, great customer experience, support humanity, and help fight drug addiction.

As an owner, Kilgarlin has held several different positions at the company. She has been a quality management representative since 2012. She was vice president of business development from January 2017 until January 2022. In that role, she managed sales representatives and helped new customers who needed help with drug testing needs.

Kilgarlin also has written books in her roles at ASC. These books include What Parents Need to Know About Drug Testing their Teens, a Drug Testing Dictionary, a guide to Workplace Drug Testing, and workplace safety booklets on all sorts of OSHA-regulated subjects.

She also previously managed a Catholic book store from 2014 to 2020. She still owns Jacob's Well Inspirational Books and Gifts in Shreveport, although she retired from the daily management of the store in 2020. She still, however, takes an active interest in promoting laminated prayer cards. Her current project is a 75-piece Roman Catholic collection, which features Fratelli Bonella’s artwork along with an appropriate prayer.

Kilgarlin received a bachelor of science degree in microbiology and chemistry at Southeastern Louisiana University in 1996.

Family and Creative Pursuits

Kilgarlin is the mother of four children. Her family life and faith have been the source of inspiration for many of her creative pursuits.

Her book, God's Love Letters: Overcoming Adversity discusses how God's love leads to spiritual resiliency. One of the challenges she has faced is having a seriously ill child. As she faced that challenge and others, she found balance and a new way forward. She wrote the book to inspire others who face adversity.

She also wrote Past Tense: 365 Daily Tools for Putting Stress Behind You – for Good! with her husband. The book provides daily solutions to triggered stress reactions and draws on her own experiences as a mother, scientist, and person of faith.

Kilgarlin also loves to paint and creates Christian art with her children. Art lessons with her children have become "a bonding time, no phones, just peace!!" She uses the signature I.K.S.K. Kilgarlin on artwork that she creates with her daughter Isabella. She is also working with her daughter Juliana to produce art. Kilgarlin is also an inspirational speaker.

Charity Work

The Christian faith of Shawn Kilgarlin also comes through in her charity work. She focuses her support on Holy Angels, a Shreveport-based nonprofit organization that provides love, support, and empowerment for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. One recent Kilgarlin family activity was to visit the Holy Angels campus during the Christmas holidays to deliver more than 75 gifts, blessing cards, and a Merry Christmas plaque.

Although I have been blessed with professional success and a wonderful family, I cannot imagine a fulfilling life without giving back to society, particularly where my contribution can truly make a difference, " she says. "It is my honor and privilege to support the tremendous work done by Holy Angels, whose mission is to provide compassionate care and high-quality living to people with intellectual developmental disabilities and delicate medical conditions.

Holy Angels was founded in 1954 as a ministry of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Shreveport. In 2006, the organization transitioned to an independent 501(c) (3) organization while continuing with the same mission.

Only a small number of people in each profession make the Who's Who registry in any given year.
